Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer
The Berlin Wall & the Divided City
Immerse yourself in Berlin’s turbulent history and explore the places that shaped the city’s division.
Begin at the Berlin Wall Memorial at Nordbahnhof. Here you’ll learn about the dramatic events surrounding the Wall and the division of the city.
From Nordbahnhof, take the S-Bahn and tram to the interactive DDR Museum. Experience everyday life under socialism up close.
From Friedrichstraße station, take the S-Bahn to the East Side Gallery, the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall. Admire iconic artworks such as Dmitri Vrubel’s “The Fraternal Kiss.”
Cross the former Heinrich-Heine-Straße border crossing and walk through Kreuzberg to the world-famous Checkpoint Charlie. Visit the Wall Museum “Haus am Checkpoint Charlie.”
Just a few streets away is the Berlin Story Bunker. Discover the city’s history through photographs, installations, and the exhibition “Hitler – How Could It Happen.”
Continue along Stresemannstraße toward Potsdamer Platz, where you’ll find an original DDR watchtower on Erna-Berger-Straße. A short climb offers a view just like the border guards once had.
