This innovative and unusual museum is the perfect place for visitors who want to fully understand the history of Berlin, and appreciate what events shaped the city into the place it is today. Using a mix of media such as photography, film, and art installations, the Berlin Story Museum takes its visitors on a trip through time. Visitors start their time travel in the 18th century with Frederick the Great on the throne, and progress through key events such as the Bismarck years, the World Wars, and the building of the Berlin Wall. The recreated scenes from history give a great insight into the lives of ordinary Berliners.
Berlin – one of the great European cities
Berlin has shaken off its recent past as a divided city and is now one of the most exciting and vibrant European cities for visitors. The divisions between East and West are still there for visitors who want to explore the remaining sections of the Berlin Wall or see typical East German accommodation. Many other visitors prefer more cultural pursuits, and world-famous Museum Island in the centre of the city brings together some of Europe's most important historical institutions in one small space. Berlin also has a thriving contemporary art scene, with galleries, theatres, and concerts all over the city. Don't miss the green heart of the city, the Tiergarten, which provides the perfect space to take a break from sightseeing.
City history explained at the Berlin Story Museum
One of Berlin's most innovative museums is the Berlin Story Museum. Descend into an underground bunker and follow a series of displays and multimedia exhibits charting the history of Berlin from the 18th century to the end of the 20th century. Some of the museum's 'must sees' are the reconstruction of the bunker where Hitler holed up at the end of the war, and the photo montage showing the Brandenburg Gate from construction to present day.
