Berlin's West City down the years

Two days of art and culture

  • Schloss Charlottenburg
  • KaDeWe
  • Loetz Vasen aus dem Bröhan-Museum

For this tour, plan in two days.

Start your day the baroque way – with a trip back in time to the beautiful Charlottenburg Palace [1], the largest surviving residence of the Prussian kings in Berlin. Give yourself a moment to take in the impressive architecture – and don’t forget to explore the romantic riverside gardens and grounds, ideal for a relaxing stroll. Directly opposite, the Bröhan Museum [2] showcases art nouveau arts and crafts, while the Scharf-Gerstenberg Museum [3] offers a fascinating insight into the world of surrealist art.

For an ideal overview of 800 years of Berlin’s history, don’t miss The Story of Berlin [4] on Kurfürstendamm boulevard, just a short bus ride away. With its 23 themed rooms, this impressive interactive multimedia exhibition takes you on a fascinating journey through time. To bring the day to a perfect close, plan in a relaxing evening in the nearby Restaurant Marooush [5]. Here, you can enjoy the original Arabian dining experience in an Oriental atmosphere complete with Egyptian cuisine and belly dancing.

Start day two with an easy stroll past the many stores lining the Kurfürstendamm boulevard, the heart of City West. Take the chance to explore some side-streets, such as Fasanenstraße and Bleibtreustraße, and discover a shoppers’ paradise with an elegant mix of small outlets, cafés and restaurants. At Breitscheidplatz, the ruins  of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial  Church [6] and the new church from 1961 commemorate the horrors of World War II.

The legendary KaDeWe department store [7] is just a short walk away. This must-see experience offers treasures to discover on every floor. Make sure you visit the stunning food hall – a place where culinary dreams come true! With its glass dome, the seventh-floor restaurant area above the rooftops of Berlin is ideal for a short break. Afterwards, your evening entertainment is just a short underground ride away at the Varieté Theater Wintergarten [8], with its glamorous atmosphere and breathtaking revue shows. Alternatively, you could also explore more of City West on a safe and informative guided Segway tour with City Segway Tours [9].
