Berlin's West City down the years

Two days of art and culture

  • Schloss Charlottenburg
  • KaDeWe
  • Loetz Vasen aus dem Bröhan-Museum

For this tour, plan in two days.

Start your day the baroque way – with a trip back in time to the beautiful Charlottenburg Palace [1], the largest surviving residence of the Prussian kings in Berlin. After viewing the palace, stroll the lovely palace grounds. Directly opposite, the Bröhan-Museum [2] showcases art nouveau arts and crafts, and the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection [3] offers a fascinating insight into the world of surrealist art.

To continue on your journey through time, take in the impressive multimedia overview of over 800 years of Berlin’s history at The Story of Berlin [4] down on the spreading Kurfürstendamm boulevard – best reached by bus. Finish off with a relaxing evening in nearby Restaurant Marooush [5] for the original Arabian dinner experience complete with belly dancing.

Start day two with an easy stroll past the many stores lining the Kurfürstendamm boulevard, the heart of City West – and explore some side streets, like Fasanenstraße and Bleibtreustraße, to discover a shoppers’ paradise with its own unique mix of small outlets, cafés and restaurants. At Breitscheidplatz, the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church [6] and the new church from 1961 commemorate the horrors of World War II. The legendary KaDeWe department store [7] is just a short walk away. From here, a short subway ride takes you to the Wintergarten variety theatre [8], renowned for its lively shows and breathtaking acrobatic acts. Other fun activities include exploring the City West – on a safe and informative Segway tour with City Segway Tours [9].
