Zeiss Planetarium

Central Europe's largest planetarium opened its doors for the first time in 1987 as part of the 750th anniversary celebrations of the Berlin's first mention in writing. The stellar Zeiss Großplanetarium makes for a great distraction while in Berlin.

Berlin, the first and last stop of every culture traveller

Berlin's dark past stands in stark contrast to the happy, multi-cultural city one sees today — no doubt testament to a city which voted for reconciliation and growth. Of note is the impressive Victory Column crowned by a gold statue of Victoria. It was this column which featured in Wim Wenders' cult classic Faraway, So Close, and in U2's song by the same name. State-of-the-art slide projectors treat visitors to a spectral sight of over 10,000 stars projected onto the artificial night sky. Refurbishments in 2014 have made Zeiss Europe's most modern planetarium. The planetarium also hosts music concerts and 'audio theatre under a starry sky' sessions. An in-house cinema screens art house films on special evenings. Gourmands should try the organic menu crafted by Michelin-starred chef Tim Raue at the Zeiss Großplanetarium's resident café. The Prenzlauer Allee S-Bahn station is just a stone's throw away.
