The Schlosspark theatre began operating in 1921 in the Wrangelschlösschen in Berlin-Zehlendorf.
From 1950, as one of Berlin's state theatres, the building served as a smaller venue of the Schiller theatre in Berlin-Charlottenburg until it closed in the early 1990s for renovation work, then as the State Drama Theatre in Berlin. In subsequent years, the Schlosspark theatre became a private theatre with several new directors and promoters.
At the instigation of Dieter Hallervorden, the theatre was reopened after extensive restoration and renovation work in the autumn of 2009. Together with Ilja Richter, Hallervorden performed in the opening of Katharina Thalbach's production of Daniel Colas' "Die Socken Opus 124" himself.

The Schlosspark theatre is now again considered one of the best theatres in the capital. The versatile schedule is a special feature. The in-house productions, always with a famous cast, are performed to the public after the premiere in blocks of 4 - 6 performances over several months. In between, big names perform as guests with their solo programmes.
