Museum Europäischer Kulturen (Museum of European Cultures)

The Museum of European Cultures sees itself as a meeting place of cultures in an integrating Europe. The collection focuses on the worlds of life and cultural contacts from the 18th century until the present.

The collection of the museum includes about 280,000 objects from everyday culture and popular art in Germany and other European countries. This makes it one of the largest of its kind in Europe.  The Museum of European Cultures features excerpts of the collection in the permanent exhibition “Cultural Contacts: Life in Europe”, a public study collection, the “Current shop window”, and changing special exhibitions.

The collections of the Berlin State Museums, the Ethnological Museum, and the Museum of Asian Art, which until recently were also located in Dahlem, have been closed since 9 January 2017 and moved to the Humboldt Forum in the centre of Berlin.
