KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art

The KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art is an extraordinary exhibition venue for Berlin. Since 2016, important works of international contemporary art have been shown in the building complex of the former Kindl brewery in Neukölln. The exhibition programme consists of several large exhibitions per year. Events such as artist talks, lectures and concerts round off the art centre’s programme. 

Through historically sensitive conversion measures, the former industrial complex was transformed into a centre for contemporary art, creating a modern, multi-purpose venue for the presentation and production of art and, at the same time, preserving the industrial character of the building.

The KINDL has more than 1,600 sqm of exhibition space. On the three floors of the former machine house, each with an area of around 400 sqm, monographic work exhibitions and thematic group exhibitions are presented in parallel. With a height and side length of around 20 metres, the hall of the former boiler house provides a unique additional exhibition venue. 

In addition to the exhibition rooms, the former brewhouse of the brewery with its six huge copper boilers, at that time the largest brew pans in Europe, is particularly impressive. In the former "Palast Berliner Bierkultur" (Palace of Berlin Beer Culture) a café now invites visitors and locals alike. In the warmer months it also has a beer garden under plane trees on the forecourt.
