The James-Simon-Gallery is the central hub of Museum Island and, as such, connects the various museums for which it serves as an entrance hall. Built in 2018, the modern building is an architectural counterpoint to the historic buildings of the Pergamon Museum, the Bode Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Altes Museum and the Neues Museum. In addition to its function as the island’s entrance and service centre, the James Simon Gallery also houses temporary exhibitions that portray a broad spectrum of art forms and periods, rounding off the offerings of the island on the Spree. Visitors should therefore always keep up to date with the latest announcements in order to be informed about current exhibitions.
Please note: The James Simon Gallery is the central entrance building for the Pergamon Museum and the Neues Museum. It regularly hosts special exhibitions.
For the Schliemann exhibition you need a time slot ticket, available free of charge at smb.museum and at the Berlin Tourist Infos.
Berlin: a city and its museums invite you to visit
The German capital is rich in a wide range of sightseeing attractions. Among these, the most important museums of the city on the Spree stand out, providing a diverse offering to museum lovers of all genres. In addition to historical museums, there is a wide variety of local museums, archaeological museums and of course an almost incalculable number of art museums. A special pearl within the museum world is Museum Island in the heart of the city. Halfway between the Brandenburg Gate and the TV Tower, one of Berlin’s Spree islands is dedicated entirely to the fine arts, with each museum covering a specific period. Here visitors are welcomed by the world-famous Nefertiti, whose bust is prominently presented in the Neues Museum. The building of the James Simon Gallery, which is also worth seeing, functions as an entrance portal.
