May 1945 were the Nazis simply gone? No. We explain how Germany became what it is. Trümmerwüste, Wirtschaftswunder, "Dare more democracy" the building and fall of the Berlin Wall, "Wir schaffen das" ("We can do it") - but the turning point is 1968, the transformation of society. Changing the world with boundless confidence in one's own strength - for the freedom of the oppressed, for social participation, self-realization and more democracy.
In Germany, the values of the war generation were rejected, denied any moral authority. Worldwide, culture, politics and economy changed massively. The Vietnam War was on television. Hippies in San Francisco, civil rights activists in Northern Ireland, Prague Spring, Paris May Day, the Chinese Cultural Revolution. In 1968, a small, radical minority triggered a modernization push. The brief student revolt brought about overdue social changes that permeated Germany permanently. Women finally entered history on a massive scale, civic initiatives emerged, children's stores, a new media landscape.
Germany turned itself inside out. No breathing space, history is made. The museum shows the development until today, until Corona, until the Ukraine war.
