This year, Berlin is marking a quarter century since the Berlin Wall “fell” on 9 November 1989. This is a great opportunity to rediscover the city. The Berlin WelcomeCard offers discounts of at least 25% to many of the historic exhibitions and sites related to the Berlin Wall!
Along the Wall
Take a trip back in time at the Mauermuseum – Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, focusing on the many different and often original ideas that people tried to escape East Germany by crossing the Wall. Next door is the famous former border crossing known as Checkpoint Charlie. Afterwards, continue your tour of discovery at the Blackbox Kalter Krieg, the first museum in Germany dedicated exclusively to the Cold War. The museum also illustrates the role that Germany’s division played in the larger international conflict. Then head off to the nearby asisi Panorama – Die Mauer for a glimpse of life in the divided city in the final years of the Wall’s existence.
The Berlin WelcomeCard gives reduced admission prices to all of these exhibitions. You can find other museums and exhibitions covering the history of the Berlin Wall and East Germany among our Berlin WelcomeCard partners.
Exploring the German capital
Trabi Safari gives you the chance to take the wheel of a Trabant, the legendary East German car, while enjoying a guided tour of the city. Drive through the city in a colonnade of Trabis and get an impression of just how much the city has changed in a quarter century. Or you can ascend 150 metres into the air onto an Air Service Berlin tethered balloon to enjoy great views of the city. Take the fastest lift in Europe to the top of Panoramapunkt am Potsdamer Platz and enjoy fantastic views of today’s city and compare it to the photos of Potsdamer Platz at the time of the Wall that are currently on display. The Berlin WelcomeCard offers plenty of discounts as you explore the city.
A night out in Berlin
Berlin’s restaurants offer cuisine representing the entire world. The Berlin WelcomeCard helps to make the choice a bit easier and ensure an enjoyable dining experience: our partner restaurants offer discounts on food and drinks to holders of the Berlin WelcomeCard.
After dinner, you might want to head over to Stage Theater am Potsdamer Platz, currently featuring the Udo Lindenberg musical “Hinterm Horizont”, the love story of two people separated by the construction of the wall.
